Why is it important to have a tune-up?
According to the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, up to half of your home's energy goes to heating and cooling. There are a few important things you can do to ensure that your heating and cooling system run efficiently to keep utility bills down and your comfort up.:
- Be sure to change your air filter regularly - We recommend changing your filter at least every three months, because dirty air filters can restrict the air flow in your house causing your system to work harder thereby wasting energy and increasing utility bills. By changing your filters it also cuts down on dust and dirt build up in the system. Failure to do so may result in early break down or total system failure, leading to expensive maintenance costs.
- Install a programmable thermostat - A programmable thermostat can lower a home's energy costs by up to $180 dollars a year, by lowering heating or increasing cooling temperatures duriing the day or while you are away when no one is at home.
- Have yearly system tune-ups - Car owners maintain their vehicles with regular oil changes and tune-ups to keep them running more efficiently and last longer. The same principle applies to your heating and cooling system. If you take care of your heating and cooling system, it will run more efficiently, provide you comfort and may prolong the life of your home's equipment.
