Running Toilets
Toilets leaking water can also adversely affect your water bill. You might be wondering how you could tell for toilet leaks, when the toilet is always filled with water. To check for a leak, lift the tank and look if the water is spilling into the overflow. Then, take food coloring or laundry bluing and place it in the tank. Wait 30 minutes. Check Your Water Meter
Your meter diagram displays how much water is being used. This device can help you detect “hidden” leaks that are not apparent, and may occur under the home or in the foundational pipes running through the house. To check for these leaks, look note the number on the meter. Wait an hour without using any water in the house. Check the meter again and if the number changes, it means you have a leak.
